Baby water - Is it really necessary?

Baby water is a specially treated drinking water, which is free of harmful substances and germs. Likewise, the content of minerals is deliberately reduced. This applies in particular to sodium, nitrate and sulfate. But is it really necessary to buy specially treated drinking water in the supermarket for expensive money?

Since drinking water is not completely germ-free, it is recommended to boil the water before preparing baby food in order to thermally kill potential pathogens. These potential germs in drinking water are only dangerous for immunocompromised persons or babies, not for children or adults with a developed immune system. Remedy is provided by treatment systems for private households such as the HYPRO WATER, which are based on UVC disinfection. The UV light disinfects the drinking water and keeps it germ-free. The HYPRO WATER can be installed by the customer in front of the tap, eliminating the boiling step and saving parents a lot of time when preparing baby food.

In addition to germs, pollutants can be present in drinking water due to a lack of monitoring and regulations, as well as inadequate treatment and outdated domestic water pipes. These contaminants can be safely removed via activated carbon filtration.

However, activated carbon does not remove minerals such as calcium, magnesium and sodium, nor nitrate and sulfate from the water. Therefore, parents should test by means of a drinking water analysis whether the content of sodium, nitrate and sulfate is low, because babies and young children should only consume these minerals in small doses.

So what can parents do to save time and still protect their child?

  • Do not use reverse osmosis water, because this water lacks minerals and the filter membranes can germinate very quickly
  • Test your water for sodium, nitrate and sulfate
  • If the values are ok, install a HYPRO WATER to remove pollutants and germs from the water and tap safe water directly from the tap
